Sustainability is everyone’s responsibility

The brand new Eco Label collections are beautiful, sophisticated fabrics meeting renowned international standards and certifications. These include verification of organic cotton content, recycled fibre content and minimal environmental impact in manufacturing.

Kind to the planet

Many industries, including textiles, are adapting to the demand for sustainable products that are kinder to the planet. With growing awareness of the benefits of sustainable products, we hope to improve our relationship with the natural environment while respecting the human need for comfort and quality.

On the Expresso Show

On 27 May 2021, Hennie Dreyer from Home Fabrics made a special appearance on the Expresso morning show on SABC3. Everyone’s trying to live more eco-friendly and Hennie explored sustainable fabric with the Expresso presenters.

Being conscious as consumers starts with the choices we make when we buy. Hennie showed how sustainability and home decor converge in the beautiful Naturama collection by FibreGuard. Exploring the special attributes of the fabric, Hennie also shared how stylish they are and how they’ll integrate into decor schemes.

Setting a
new standard

The incredible fabrics in the Eco Label portfolio have internationally recognised certifications or meet stringent standards that assure you of their quality and their contribution to sustainability. Let's look at some of these eco-standards briefly:

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®

Introduced in 1992, the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide standard by which fabrics are tested and judged free of harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to be harmful to human health.

If a product is labelled with ‘STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®' it means that it is completely free from harmful chemicals and safe for human use.

We are proud to carry fabrics that have this certification alongside other international standards and certifications for eco-conscious fibres and manufacturing.

Global Recycle Standard (GRS)

We are incredibly proud to supply fabrics that carry GRS certification.

These fabrics contain a minimum of 50% recycled content and comply with the international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of Recycled Content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. The goal of the GRS is to increase the use of recycled materials in products and reduce/eliminate the harm caused by its production. Great fabrics that are kinder to the planet.

ISO 14001

Ever considered how your favourite upholstery and drapery fabrics are made?

The new Eco Label collections coming soon to Home Fabrics are proudly created in ISO 14001 mills. Simply put, having ISO 14001 certification means that the manufacture of these fabrics is undertaken in a way that is environmentally conscious and friendly. With a growing demand for eco-friendly and green considerations in design projects, you can assure your clients you know the providence of the fabric is internationally compliant and part of forward-thinking sustainability.

Organic Content Standard (OCS)

When it comes to sustainable products, many people look for organic certification.

OCS is a certification awarded to goods that are guaranteed as containing organic content such as organic cotton. Each party involved in the chain of production, from yarn supply through to finished goods, is closely audited and controlled to ensure the item contains genuine organic content.

Organic cotton is a type of fibre produced according to strict organic agricultural standards which safeguard the health of soils, ecosystems and people. Based on their composition, fabrics are either awarded the “Organic Content Standard 100” for fabrics containing more than 95% organic fibre, or the “OCS Blended – Organic Content Standard” for fabrics containing between 5% than 95% organic fibre.

REACH (the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

Let's talk about REACH compliance in fabrics.

REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.

If a fabric meets the REACH standard, you can trust it poses no risk from harmful chemicals. Good for you, your clients and the planet.

Quality, Environment, Safety and Health (QESH)

Quality - we all want it so, how do manufacturers guarantee it?

In the case of FibreGuard fabrics, Bru Textiles demonstrates its commitment to consistently delivering excellence through QESH. The company's Quality Management policy concerns all areas related to Quality, Environment, Safety and Health (QESH).

For you, it's an assurance that the product is created according to internationally recognised standards that support the environment and the well-being of those who enjoy these top quality products in their homes, offices, hotels and medical spaces.
