4 ways nature can inspire your home style

Step outside, breathe in the fresh air, stroll among the flowers, and let nature's unedited beauty inspire your home styling ideas.

If you’re struggling to find ideas for styling your home, step outside. Enjoy the fresh air. Stroll among the flowers. Immerse yourself in nature and be inspired by the colours, scents, and botanicals. Nature provides endless, unedited beauty. It could give you the inspiration you need, and your home will thank you.

Renewal, vitality, growth, beauty – just a few of the words that come to mind when thinking about our natural world. Nature, flowers, and the landscape are all consistent elements of my vocabulary – I couldn’t imagine what my life or my work would look like without their presence.

Botanical, floral, and wildlife patterns

The natural world can easily inspire your home style, especially when it comes to patterns and prints.

  • Flowers in nature, whether from your garden or the mountainside, can inspire you to incorporate floral patterns into your home. You might choose to have a bunch of daisies printed onto a cushion cover. Or, you might cover your walls with romantic floral wallpaper. Rest assured: the result is always eye-catching.

  • A scene from nature, with wildlife roaming through a colourful landscape, can come to life in a pattern or print that merges realism with the fantastical (such as the wallcovering design pictured below).

The bright, bold wallpaper below is a snapshot of nature’s finest: flowers. Roses take centre stage, intertwining in fuschia, radiant yellow, and soft blue and lilac. It’s an exquisite design and perfect for a bedroom, lounge, or living room.

Natural light and a view of the outdoors

Natural light has many benefits and a view of the outside world can instantly boost your mood. A moody, darkened room, isolated from the world, won’t have that effect.

Tall, wide glass windows and doors, with sheer curtains that don’t block out the light, are an easy way to welcome more natural sunlight into your home and give you an unobstructed view of nature.

Indoor plants and flowers

One of the benefits of having greenery in your home is improved mental health. Do you feel happier and lighter just looking at the bright pink daisies in your garden? Bring them inside!

Let nature inspire you with all of its colour and variety, and bring flowers and plants inside your home to lift your spirits.

When arrangements are fading, select the best blooms and cut at the top of the stems, the flower heads look fantastic simply floating in a shallow dish of water - this works particularly well for peonies, pink nerines, carnations, delphiniums and green guelder roses.

The benefits of indoor plants:

  • Indoor plants clean the air of toxins and produce oxygen.

  • Indoor plants can alleviate tension and reduce your stress levels.

  • Indoor plants create a relaxed, creative atmosphere, and can increase your productivity.

Natural materials and fabrics

Choose natural fabrics and materials, instead of synthetics, when you’re styling your home. This literally brings the outside in.
