The weird and wonderful ways you can use wallpaper

Embrace the weird & wonderful and have fun with wallpaper in your home.

Wallpaper is a wonderful way to add character to a room, but don’t let the name fool you - wallpaper can be used for so much more than walls. That’s when the fun begins. Read on for 5 weird and wonderful ways to use wallpaper throughout your home.

Whether you opt for a more traditional pattern repeat or an on-trend mural look, don’t shy away from bringing colour and pattern into any room with striking wallpaper.

Create an accent wall with wallpaper

Nothing makes a statement quite like an accent wall. It also makes a room breathable because instead of having wallpaper across all 4 walls, it’s only on one - which is perfect if the wallpaper’s design is busy and the space is small.

  • In the wallpaper below, flowering eucalyptus intertwines with peony blooms and small white butterflies. The foliage cascades down a textured wall - the perfect eye-catching and large-scale design for an accent wall.

We don’t often consider accent walls for bathrooms, but why not? The beautiful design below is an ideal wallpaper for a bathroom’s accent wall.

  • Walls are adorned with plants reminiscent of Barcelona’s Rambla, bringing a light, airy feel that will instantly transform a bathroom.

Use wallpaper on the ceiling

The ceiling is a design opportunity we often forget about. But wallpaper gives us a reason to look up at it. When wallpaper is applied to the ceiling, it affects the lighting and atmosphere of a room (depending on the colour) and adds interest to an empty space.

  • Consider the starry wallpaper pattern below. Use it on the ceiling of your bedroom, dim the lights, and you have your own starry sky above your head. When designing a child's bedroom, you might opt for a colourful wallpaper pattern on the ceiling (as seen below). When you apply this wallpaper to the ceiling, it brings in the bright florals and butterflies of nature and creates an airy, garden-fresh atmosphere. This adds to the playful spirit of the room.

Frame wallpaper to hang on your walls

Picture frames don’t only need to contain photos or works of art. You can frame wallpaper, too. Some designs and patterns are just as intricate and stunning as the art itself (such as the examples below) and look perfectly at home in a frame.

  • A collection of different-sized frames, each one displaying wallpaper, can create a stunning feature wall in any room.

  • Or maybe you’d prefer just one large frame, featuring a wallpaper withbigger, graphic prints (as seen below).

Upholster furniture with wallpaper

You can use wallpaper to upholster the furniture in your bedroom, lounge, bathroom, and even kitchen. Applying wallpaper to furniture is a delicate process, so you’ll want to do your research. But here are some ideas for when you’re deciding on a pattern and where to put it:

  • Green wallpaper for kitchen cabinets (green is a trendy colour for 2022).

Green has its powerful meaning as the colour of growth. It renews and restores depleted energy, which is why it is such a wonderful hue to have in the home.

Geometric patterned wallpaper (as seen in the image below) for the bookshelves and other furniture in your study. Geometrics are a dramatic, luxurious contemporary pattern, ideal for the masculine aesthetic often seen in a study.

Nostalgic, floral wallpaper for drawers or bookshelves in a bedroom (as seen in the image below).

Apply wallpaper to lampshades

Cover a lampshade with wallpaper and you have an exquisite accessory for your room.

  • When you decide to use wallpaper for your lampshades, the options are endless. You are introduced to the versatility, fantasy, pattern, and personality that are hard to find in a typical lampshade. Say yes to wallpaper, and you can have some fun!

  •  In a neutral-coloured room, use a lampshade wallpaper with bright, rich colours and prints. This will add colour and make your lamp a striking focal point in the room.

Over the last few years, wallpaper has risen in popularity. Today it’s a trendy choice for any home. And whether you love exotic prints and patterns, or neutral geometrics, or romantic florals, there’s a design for every home style.
