Celebrating women's month with Home Fabrics
This month, we sat down with some of the amazing Women at Home Fabrics. We spoke about celebrating women, their favourite ‘go-to’ quotes, advice for young women and much more. Read the Q&A below:
-
Rhonda: Passionate, Loyal and Independent.
Monique: Passionate, Creative and Caring.
Mandy: Kind, Caring and Strong.
Sally: Strong, Loving and Positive.
Stefanie: Empathetic, Trustworthy and Inquisitive.
-
Rhonda: My Mom. I admire her belief in people and her faith. She has always said "Remember with every choice there will be a consequence. The decision is yours to decide the outcome."
Monique: My mother. She has helped me grow into the woman I am today. She always supports me no matter what.
Mandy: My mother, she is the strongest woman I know.
Sally: I could name many, however, my mom Joy Kay would be top of my list. My mom instilled her morals and values in me from a young age. I never truly realised or appreciated her presence in my life until I became a woman and mother myself. Although they may not have always been the right decisions at the time, my mom supported me unconditionally (even when it disappointed or broke her heart).
Stefanie: Tricia Guild. For bringing exquisite colour to the world for over 50 years.
-
Rhonda: Mother Theresa. The work she has done globally is a testament that it only takes one woman to stand up.
Monique: Audrey Hepburn. There was nothing Audrey Hepburn couldn’t do. She was a humanitarian, dancer, actress and member of the Dutch Resistance. What she taught us: Endless optimism: Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible!’’
Mandy: Oprah. Her wisdom, confidence and tenacity.
Sally: One of my best friends Emily Pryor. We have been friends since High School (Yes, a couple of years ago). Beautiful inside and out, a loving family, business owner since 2002, and an entrepreneur at every opportunity. Has been by my side since I returned to South Africa in 2000, supporting and positively motivating me, with both personal and professional decisions I have made over the last 20 years. Her permanent presence in my life plays a huge part in who I am today, whether it has been a late-night baby's teething issue or handling a demotivated work employee, Emily is ALWAYS my "go-to-girl" for the best guidance and advice.
Stefanie: Nina Campbell for being hearts on. She is one of the world's most respected and influential designers, and still manages to make time to be on the fundraising committee for the children's charity ‘Kids Company’.
-
Rhonda: Behind every successful woman, there is a tribe of other successful women, who have her back.
Monique: Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.
Mandy: For all the strong women. May we know them, may we raise them, may we be them.
Sally: She believed she could, so she did.
Stefanie: Don't tell me women aren't the stuff of heroes.
-
Rhonda: My greatest fulfilment is the raising of my two boys and watching them grow into men.
Monique: Several things in life fulfil me. My family is the most important one. Every moment spent with them is precious they come first in my life. On a personal level, every year I challenge myself to grow, be it by studying and obtaining qualifications or perfecting a new hobby or skill. I am always pushing to do more. I also think it’s important to live in the present, when you're immersed in the present moment, your productivity and happiness will skyrocket.
Mandy: Becoming a mother.
Sally: I believe everything in moderation and a balance is essential. I love my three passions in life, my family, my friends, and my work purpose and opportunities. Each fulfils and challenges me on a daily basis, allowing me to grow to be the best version of myself. My two beautiful daughters are definitely teaching me the little life lessons I may have missed along the way.
Stefanie: Reflecting on the journey I've shared with close friends and family.
-
Rhonda: Looking back I would put myself first more often instead of taking a back seat to satisfying others. I would definitely invest more time spent with family.
Monique: Looking back at my past, I wouldn't change a thing. My past experiences have presented challenges that made me into the person I am today. My past-life experiences have aided/assisted with my spiritual growth and I feel it has contributed to the integrity I hold while connecting and communicating with others.
What I would do again, is spend time with my sister. I think when we were growing up together, we took that time for granted and it’s only now that I realise how precious those moments truly were.
Mandy: I would not waste so much time on people who don’t value me. Keep showing up and doing my best.
Sally: I would have loved to do more travelling, both in our beautiful country South Africa and beyond. Money can definitely get you to your destination, however, experiences can add excitement to the journey.
Stefanie: I would do everything over again, but I would take myself less seriously.
-
Rhonda: To never be afraid of being true to themselves. To always know that there is no limitation to their strength and dreams.
Monique: If you don’t love yourself, you can’t love others. Use sunscreen and eye cream. Learn to laugh at yourself. Always make space and time for hobbies, rest, restoration, friendships. Buy that red coat, purse, shoes, whatever.
Mandy: Know your worth and be proud of it.
Sally: Know and appreciate who you are. Life and love starts with YOU. Take each day as it comes, but never take it for granted. Never be scared to try new opportunities to find what best suits you.
Stefanie: Cherish every second you spend with your mother and your grandmother. They hold the key to self-acceptance.
