Colours from Milan Design Week

African design, celebrating heritage and innovation, finds inspiration in global trends. FibreGuard's team, at Milan's Salone del Mobile, shares insights on emerging trends, including sustainability, bold designs, and a commitment to traditional craftsmanship.

Although we as Africans create our trends that celebrate our heritage and environment as well as show true innovation in design, we can also take inspiration from the trends we see emerging in international markets.

Milan's Salone del Mobile was back in full post-pandemic force this year and the design team from FibreGuard was able to attend this amazing show packed with the biggest names in the world of art and design. From sustainability to boundary-pushing designs and an emphasis on time-honoured craft, some interesting design trends emerged from Milan and were shared by FibreGuard.

Bright and light

Iconic brand Hermes had a huge installation with Lightness as the theme of their presentation. It paid special attention to sunny, bright home textiles - a reflection of the slower pace of life and simpler living we're taking with us in a post-pandemic world. FibreGuard's collections are available in a rainbow of colours that can bring a sunny and light feeling into any space.

Colour trends from Salone del Mobile

  • Cobalt Blue - As we enter a post-modern movement, cobalt blue is a trending colour and coming into its own, proving surprisingly popular in residential interiors and object design. It plays well with magenta pink.

  • Jewel tones - Gorgeous jewel tones create a lush, colourful treasure chest in room styling. Sapphire, emerald, amber, ruby and amethyst are everywhere along with plenty of pink, mint and peacock shades.

  • Burgundy - is a dark reddish-brown inspired by the colour of wine from the Burgundy region of France. This deep, dark red colour with violet tones is a reserved, grounding colour, instilling feelings of security and comfort.

Texture is trending

By far the most noticeable texture trends included plush, comfy fabrics that you can curl up into. Bouclé textures at the Salone del Mobile reigned supreme: you couldn’t miss them. Cuddly furniture and bouclé itself are only gaining in popularity now as we head into the end of the year and the beginning of a new one.

Fortunately, FibreGuard is always on trend and in style. The fabrics have the texture and colour variety to suit all trends and tastes. You can also trust that they'll look and feel as good as new for years with their incredible durability. And, you don't have to worry about cleaning as a little water and household soap is all you need. To find out more, have a look at our FibreGuard collection galleries or visit your nearest Home Fabrics showroom for a demonstration of the stain-resistant technology.
