Invest in our planet on Earth Day
Each year on 22 April, more than a billion people celebrate Earth Day to protect the planet from things like pollution and deforestation. Sustainability is the path to prosperity for humanity and businesses alike.
We all have a role to play in preserving our natural environment, whether it be through smarter choices as consumers or more eco-conscious practices in our businesses. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 when the United States when a national demonstration was held to raise awareness about environmental issues. By 1990, Earth Day was an event celebrated by more than 140 countries around the globe.
So, what does Earth day mean for you and I?
It reminds us that change starts with action. There are ways for all of us to make even small changes by using the power of choice. First, we can educate ourselves on climate change and how supporting local initiatives like recycling, beach clean-ups, upcycling textiles, or environmental conservation projects makes a difference.
Another way we can change is by looking at our own practices and seeing if we can do better. This includes reducing our energy and water consumption, how much of our refuse is going to landfills or recycling, and if the products we use are harmful to the environment.
In having choices as consumers, we are also fortunate to have eco-conscious options. Home Fabrics is proud to supply more sustainable products that include fabrics made of recycled fibres with international standard certification. We also have 100% organic cotton composition fabrics along with textiles that carry the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification. This label is assurance that the fabric contains no harmful substance that would be a risk to the environment, humans or animals.
